David James has advised that Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli will do better if he joins Jurgen Klopp’s winning streak.

Klopp is a big fan of the young Brazilian, who branded him “a great player” after his reds beat Arsenal 2-0 earlier this season.

The Premier League-winning manager also insisted that Martinelli’s name “should be remembered by everyone”.

And former Liverpool goalkeeper James wants to see Klopp manage Martinelli and take him to the next level.

In an interview with GGRecon, former England international James said: “Gabriel Martinelli is one of the players I’m excited about. If I had to choose between Martinelli and Rapinha, I would choose Martinelli.

“He’s young and he has everything he needs. He’s like a slightly undercooked Diaz and the beauty of Diaz is that he can play basically anywhere.

“Martinelli obviously has a lot more left side.

“I always think that if you have a good environment and age, you can control a player as a different player, and I think Martinelli lives up to that standard.

“He is young and very talented. I can imagine him doing what he does for Arsenal in a Liverpool jersey.

“Liverpool signings, the age of the players they buy – they’re young. They’re kind of like, ‘We’ve already got a team, but what will the future look like?’ And they’re bringing those players in to fill that space. [Roberto] Firmino, [Sadio] Mané, Salah are eliminated and they will be ready to replace them.”

James’ hope of seeing Martinelli in a Liverpool shirt may just be a hopeful thought.

Martinelli has said he wants to stay at Arsenal “for the rest of his life”.

“We always want more,” he told ESPN Brasil.

“Of course, Arsenal are a huge team. If I could, I would be here for the rest of my life.

“I have already said that I want to conquer everything. I want to stay here and win the title with this wonderful crowd and my teammates.

“We have a young group, a lot of time before us, a lot of quality players and I think we will achieve something great.

“Our focus [today] it’s the Champions League Fight for top 4 place. A club like Arsenal should be in the Champions League. That is our overall focus.”
