And ahead of the event, a funny 79-year-old man diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease revealed how he continued to take “stupid” walks for his grandchildren to prevent an incurable disease.

5-year-old dad Billy – the grandfather of Walter (21) and Barbara (19) – says:

“It’s good for you to do the same things you’ve always been doing.

“I don’t let Parkinson’s dictate who I am. I just keep going. I have had a very successful career and I have no regrets at all.”

Sir Billy joins a list of many other Bafta Fellowship honorees, including Sir David Attenborough, Dame Julie Walters, Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Steven Spielberg.

Despite introducing his friend Sir Sean Connery when he received the same honor in 1998, the humble comedian said he had never been honored when he was told he would receive the prestigious ball this weekend.

He was joking. “I had no idea there were clubs. But I’ve heard it’s a big deal. It’s lovely to be recognized and pleasantly good colleagues.

“It is a deep honor. I can’t remember how many TV shows, as well as fifty movies and my stage comedies, added to the fun of reminiscing.”

Born in Glasgow in 1942, Sir Billy began his career as a welder at the Clyde shipyards and then began a career as a folk singer and musician at The Humblebums with Gerry Rafferty.

He is also an accomplished actor, acclaimed for his opposite role to Dame Judi Dench in 1997’s Mrs Brown and The Man Who Sued God and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

He is also a talented travel journalist who makes a series of popular documentaries.

In 2002, Sir Billy received a Bafta Special Award and in 2003 was placed CBE on the Queen’s Birthday Honors List.

In 2010 he was awarded City Freedom, the highest honor that Glasgow could bestow on him.

Two years later, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Bafta Scotland for 60 years in show business.

Sir Billy has been married to Pamela Stephenson, a clinical psychologist and writer who has turned into an actress since 1989.
