Hotel prices in Spain have risen ahead of the Easter holidays as Britons book trips to popular destinations, but two hotspots are getting cheaper.

Hotel prices have risen as the demand for a Spanish holiday rises as the British don’t go to Eastern Europe on Easter because of the Ukraine war.

Portugal has also seen an increase in bookings, resulting in hotel prices skyrocketing, new data from tourism information platform Mabrian Technologies shows.

Compared to 2019, hotel prices in Spain have risen 14% for 3-star hotels, 4% for 4-star hotels and 9% for 5-star hotels.

Hotel prices in Portugal rose 15% for 3-star hotels, 6% for 4-star hotels and 17% for 5-star hotels.

Hotel prices in Spain are around 15% higher than average in Portugal.

On the other hand, interest in some of the best resorts has fallen since the start of the war.

Hotel prices in popular tourist destinations Greece and Turkey fell as the British decided to avoid Eastern Europe.

Compared to 2019, the average price of a three-star hotel is down 9% in Greece and 4% in Turkey.

However, both destinations have increased the demand for five-star hotels.

Carlos Centra, Mabrian’s Director of Marketing and Sales, said: “Once you know how the Russian conflict has affected the Easter period in the short term, you can see what the trend will be if the conflict continues with the rest of the country and tourist destinations.

“This means that Spain and Portugal can confidently focus on continuing to invest to attract European travelers during the period of high Easter demand.”

Britons booking a Spanish vacation this summer have warned that some hotels may have to cancel guests due to strikes in Spain.

Strikes are currently taking place in the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca as truckers protest against high fuel prices and poor working conditions, resulting in a shortage of building materials.

If the strike continues, hotels will have to stop construction work, which could mean not opening as planned and canceling pre-booked vacations.
