British soldier ‘hero’ killed in Ukraine’s frontline

Jordan Gatley, who was discharged from the British army in March, was hailed as a “real hero” after his death in Sevedonetsk.

Dean Gatley, a heartbroken Derbyshire native, says Jordan went to Ukraine after “careful consideration” after Russian dictator Vladimir Putin sent his troops. Dean shared his family’s emotional tribute on Facebook to confirm the tragic news.

He said, “I never thought Id would use social media this way, but Sally, Adam and I want to share family news with all our friends but we have too many people to contact.

“Yesterday (10/06/22) we received the shocking news that our son Jordan was shot and killed in the Ukrainian city of Sevedonetsk.

“Jordan left the British Army in March of this year to continue his military service in other regions. The war with Europe has begun, so after careful consideration, we have turned to Ukraine for help.”

Dean said his family received “multiple messages” from his team praising “the wealth of knowledge, skills as a soldier, and love of the profession.”

“His team said they all love him just like we do and he made a huge difference in the lives of many people by training not only soldiers but also the Ukrainian army,” he said.

“Jordan and his team were very proud of what they were doing and he often told me that the missions they were working on were risky but necessary.

“He loved his job and we are very proud of him. He was truly a hero and will remain in our hearts forever.”
